nTelos Wireless Launches Custom Parental Control App

To fulfill requests from its customers, nTelos Wireless announced today the launch of a new custom parental control app.

The new app, called Parental Control, is designed to give parents peace of mind in multiple ways, from offering custom reports that show who is texting their children to a GeoAlert feature, which alerts them when their child arrives safely at school or a friends house. In addition, a parent can also use the location feature to locate their childs device at any time to determine where their child is located.

This app is perfect for parents who want their child to have a cell phone for convenience or emergencies, but also want to set boundaries on when and how they use their phone, said Conrad Hunter, chief operating officer of nTelos Wireless. Parents download the app to their childs phone, and then use a website to set the controls and features.

Starting today, the Android app will be available on the Google Play store to post-pay customers at two price levels: standard for $ 9.99 per month; and premium, which includes multiple features as well as the ability for parents to set a curfew time for when children can use the phone, and unlimited GeoAlerts for $ 14.99 per month. At either price point, parents can track up to 10 phone lines via a custom website parentalcontrol.ntelos.com. An Apple iPhone version is currently in the works.

While other cellular phone carriers offer similar features split into several different apps, nTelos worked closely with Code9 Mobile, a developer of child usage apps, to bundle sought after features into its own custom app.

In a mobile, digital world, parents need help to gain insight into their kids mobile lives, Hunter added. Without parental guidance, kids can easily misuse cell phones to become inadvertent bullies, or their victims, or worse. This was a feature our customers were asking for, so were delivering.

The app can also alert parents when certain key words are used in texts, or when there are changes to their childs address book. A parent can choose to generate a number of reports for their childs phone, with the basic level offering higher-level reporting and the premium version offering more detailed reports.

LocatioNet and CPS form joint agreement to market high accuracy positioning technology to wireless operators

LocatioNet, Inc., the developer of a comprehensive integrated platform for the delivery of location-based services (LBS) for the wireless market, has entered into a joint marketing agreement with Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd (CPS), the UK developer of Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD) technology, to market the benefits of high accuracy positioning services to wireless operators in Brazil.

Under the terms of the agreement, LocatioNet and CPS will work together to drive business opportunities and collaborate on specific LBS projects within the Latin American region with the possibility of extending the agreement to other regions as needed.

Cambridge, UK: Cambridge Positioning Systems Ltd (CPS) today announced it is working with Intel Corporation to integrate its E-OTD high accuracy location technology into a range of its products aimed at the wireless and handheld market segments.

Intel is working with CPS to integrate E-OTD technology into a range of mobile devices running Intel® Personal Internet Client Architecture (Intel PCA) building blocks. This will enable users of PDAs and smartphones to take advantage of a growing number of commercial location based services in the U.S. and beyond.

According to recent research*, the location-based services market will grow from around $ 1bn worldwide this year to an estimated $ 15bn worldwide by 2007. It is predicted that consumer-driven “infotainment” services – such as “where’s my nearest?” and “friend finder” along with news, traffic conditions, proximity and community services – will drive market take-up.

“Location based services are a critical capability for mobile platforms,” said Tony Sica, vice president of marketing for Intel’s Wireless Communications and Computing Group. “We believe Intel PCA provides a solid platform to help realize the potential of location services.
