Iken Court Bundling Software Saves Cornwall Council’s Legal Team

21 April 2009 — Like most legal teams dealing with childcare and family law, the Cornwall Children and Adults team work reactively. Caseloads may vary enormously, but the need for fast and efficient processing leading to an early conclusion of proceedings is a consistent requirement. In order to support their work, the Cornwall Legal Services team selected Iken Case Management software with automated Time Tracking Software, which was implemented in 2007. Additional Court Bundling software and a range of Childcare workflows were integrated into the solution soon afterwards.

Stuart Cohen, Legal Officer at Cornwall explains: “In childcare cases in particular, speed is of the essence. The legal team needs to react quickly to deliver structured, evidence-rich documents in the first instance to progress the case quickly through court and minimise the impact on the child and families involved. With the Iken system we can see the case history straight away, and we’ve got immediate access to it.”

The team at Cornwall are also discovering the benefits of using Iken’s electronic Court Bundling software, which automates the indexing, sectioning and pagination of bundles to support child protection and other litigation. Automotive Manufacturers Team Up for Corporate Responsibility Training

Southfield, Mich. (Vocus) May 27, 2010

Daimler AG, Ford Motor Company, General Motors Company, the Renault-Nissan alliance and Toyota in collaboration with the Automotive Industry Action Group (AIAG) today completed three days of training in Responsible Working Conditions in Istanbul, Turkey. AIAG is a non-profit, member-driven organization that works with a wide range of manufacturing companies and service providers to help them operate at peak performance.

The AIAG-hosted training is designed, sponsored and funded by the automakers to help their suppliers meet local regulations and customer expectations for acceptable environmental and working conditions. It is a supplement to corporate responsibility commitments the automakers already have in place.

The training, developed in collaboration with North American and European automakers, is part of AIAGs comprehensive corporate responsibility initiative and is modeled after programs the North American OEMs Chrysler, Ford, GM, and Honda successfully launched with AIAG in China, and later in Mexico with the addition of Toyota. To-date, there have been more than 900 participants and information has been cascaded to more than 13,500 suppliers.

AIAG is known for working collaboratively with the automotive industry to improve product quality and eliminate waste, said J. Scot Sharland, executive director of AIAG. Now, were finding that the same team-directed approach, proven methodologies and commitment to continuous improvement can be applied to environmental strategies, ethics training and human resource management. The goal of this training is to help ensure that all suppliers share a common understanding and commitment to responsible business practices that protect both the environment and our employees.

Local rules, customer expectations and the fundamental principles of responsible working conditions will all be addressed in the training, as well as specific areas such as child labor, forced labor, freedom of association, harassment and discrimination, health and safety, wages and benefits and working hours. Programs in India and Brazil are in development. All of the participating automakers have demonstrated full commitment to the enhancement of working conditions in the global automotive supply chain.

Ford believes the auto supply industry should demonstrate respect for the people who produce parts for vehicles, no matter where they live, said Tony Brown, Group Vice President, Global Purchasing, Ford Motor Company. We started our training program in 2003. We believe it is essential to share our learnings with AIAG and the other members of AIAG since we use much of the same supply base. Its important that we build on our experience, not only to avoid duplicating efforts, but also to advance the agenda of working conditions as rapidly as possibly.

In addition to the working conditions training, automotive manufacturers are also working at AIAG on other initiatives under the umbrella of corporate responsibility with the support of Program Manager Jenifer Chambers Young of the Go Green Campaign. The organization hosts a web site http://cr.aiag.org providing a repository of tools and best practices related to social and environmental programs including greenhouse gas reporting, end-of-life vehicle, International Materials Data System (IMDS), Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and restriction of Chemicals (REACH), and health, safety and environment.

Childhelp and Barker Educational Services Team Launch Child Abuse Prevention Curriculum to Schools Nationally

The program, Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe, is designed to help children, parents and educators to identify, avoid and address child abuse. 10 Years of Progress

In 2002, Protect Your Children became one of the driving forces in creating public awareness for protecting children by assembling a powerful group of professionals and volunteers to form a roster of counselors who coordinated law enforcement agencies such as the FBI, United States Secret Service along with corporations, (Publix Supermarkets, HSBC, Pepsi) Professional Sports Franchises including The Miami Heat and The Florida Marlins, to educate the public on how to protect children. This organization’s goal was to prevent child abduction and abuse. In 2003 Protect Your Children launched another initiative with its first ever Protect Your Children Safety School.Today law enforcement is better trained, better prepared and responds more swiftly and effectively than ever before. There are laws and better technology at work to protect children. Parents are more alert and aware. Yet there are still too many children who disappear each year and more who fall victim to sexual exploitation. Protect Your Children believes education focusing on preventative strategies will be key components in helping to protect our most valuable asset: Children.

Ten years ago we proudly pioneered many of the strategies, solutions and best practices which have helped shape the landscape of our industry for the better. Innovations like Public Symposiums; Safety Schools; Videos for Childrens Safety; as well as bringing together law enforcement, community leaders, corporations, government officials and those who have suffered immensely from personal tragedies to help raise awareness and to educate the general public.An estimated 800,000 children are reported missing each year more than 2,000 children every day. An estimated 1 in 5 girls and 1 in 10 boys will be sexually victimized before age 18. Yet, only 1 in 3 will tell anyone. Clearly much more needs to be done to end these atrocities and protect all of our children.

The new leadership team represents months of extensive conversations with community leaders, law enforcement professionals and our advisors. These changes reflect the sweeping progress weve made in focusing on the changing needs related to our mission. It is child-driven, and brings us closer to a wider audience.
