YMCA Calls Police to Arrest Anti-Obesity Advocate MeMe Roth — NAAO President MeMe Roth Attempts to Dump Junk Food at Local Philadelphia Spring Valley YMCA

New York, NY and Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) May 23, 2007

With 30% of America’s children at risk for obesity and diet-related diabetes; with two-thirds of their parents already overweight; and with the YMCA of the USA asserting its “unique position in the fight against child obesity”; MeMe Roth (http://www.actionagainstobesity.com) endeavored to rid the YMCA of junk food. Ms. Roth attempted to discard the sprinkles, artificially-flavored caramel and chocolate syrups, and other high-fructose corn syrup-laden and artificially-colored substances, along with the artery-clogging full-fat ice cream set up near the entranceway as a free celebratory offering to YMCA members. In response, Roth alleges the YMCA blocked its junk food table and held back the 5-foot-6-inch, 120-pound, Ms. Roth with a 6-foot-3-inch football player volunteer named “Eric” and called the police.

“I’ve been working with the YMCA for months, both locally and nationally, from the local Director and President up to the YMCA of the USA CEO, including emails, phone calls, and in-person presentations imploring the organization to fulfill its mission statement to provide an environment of health and wellness for its 20 million members, 10 million of whom are children,” said Roth. “Given the current child health crisis, the last thing we need is the YMCA encouraging our children or their parents to consume even greater amounts of obesity- and diabetes- accelerating foods. This is especially damning given the YMCA’s own mission statement and all the wonderful counsel provided by the YMCA’s own nutritionists. Members trust the YMCA to help protect their health, not encourage consumption of some of the most harmful substances in the food supply.”

Roth cites an overrepresentation of obesity among employees and volunteers, including the Philadelphia Area Spring Valley YMCA in Limerick, PA where she had come to exercise Tuesday. She assumes the membership falls closely in line to the U.S.’s national obesity figures: two-thirds of adults overweight — one-third of children overweight. The YMCA recently completed its own version of “The Biggest Loser.”

“There’s a great deal of lip service given to the fight to end child obesity, and the YMCA not only profits from some of the most indulgent junk food vending machines including Reese’s cheesecake pies, full-fat Otis Spunkmeyer muffins, S’Mores Pop-Tarts, among a plethora of other chemical-laden obesity and diabetes accelerators, but also, the YMCA uses $ 11 million dollars from Pepsi to fund its national ‘Healthy Kids Day’ and ‘Activate America’ programs. (Soda is widely reported as a top contributor to child and teen obesity.) It’s like having Philip Morris fund your cardio-vascular health day.”

National Action Against Obesity implores America’s schools, houses of worship and civic organization’s such as the YMCA to provide children and families a haven from the constant bombardment of junk food.

“Those of us fighting to keep our children and ourselves healthy deserve to have somewhere safe to go without being pressured to eat junk food,” continued Roth. “NAAO urges parents across the country to ‘Dump the Junk!’ If your child’s school pushes junk food onto your children, dump it. If your minister or rabbi uses junk food as a children’s sermon device, dump it. If your YMCA uses junk food as a means to pander to unhealthy members, dump it.”

The YMCA has threatened to press charges and terminate Ms. Roth’s family membership to the YMCA.

MeMe Roth and family are temporarily residing in the Philadelphia area, awaiting relocation to New York City.

With the Arrival of Spring, Little Rascals Nuisance Wildlife Removal Services Reminds Families to Remember the Wild in Wildlife

Neptune City, NJ (Vocus/PRWEB) March 21, 2011

According to Drew Cowley of Little Rascals Nuisance Wildlife Services, now that spring is here, its not only people shaking off the cold months of winter. Wildlife is also returning to its busy schedule of nursing and raising their young, building nests, and gathering food. Said Cowley, In recent weeks, weve seen a noticeable upsurge in animal-related incidents. New litters of wildlife are emerging in search of food. Calls from distressed homeowners seeking wildlife removal are definitely increasing.

Early spring is the time for homeowners to ready themselves for the increase in wildlife activity and the potential for human-animal conflicts. Homeowners should inspect their home for potential routes of entry and remove attractants to wildlife such as unsecured garbage cans and pet food left outside. Be on the lookout for the tell-tail signs of animal encroachments whether visual such as droppings and tracks or auditory such as unusual sounds and scratches. But, when it comes to wildlife, the first priority is the personal safety of our kids. Said Cowley, Parents must teach their tender age children to respect wildlife and to keep a healthy distance. Children, and adults for that matter, should avoid personal contact with wild animals — and that includes feeding them. Squirrels never heard of the saying Dont bite the hand that feeds you. Children must understand that wildlife is unpredictable and dangerous. Wildlife injuries and zoonotic diseases, infectious diseases transmitted by wildlife, are inevitably serious and almost always avoidable.

Continued Cowley, Unfortunately, most children have no appreciation of the risk and dangers of contact with wildlife. They watch computer-animated films with friendly, sociable animals that talk and dance and have human-like expressions, behaviors, and emotions. Whatever children may think of Mickey Mouse, Rocky Raccoon, or Simon the Squirrel, real wild animals, even urbanized wildlife that have lost their instinct to be wary of people, have no interest in being their furry friends.

Added Cowley, For safetys sake, children must learn to never to chase, touch, or pick up any wild animal, dead or alive. Any animals that can be caught may be diseased or injured and likely to bite. Dead animals can be rife with disease. And some may not be dead at all. The opossum, for example, has an unusual defense mechanism, an involuntary comatose-like state induced by fear. An inert opossum is often left alone by predators who want to chase, catch, and kill their prey. When a child picks up a ‘dead’ opossum by the tail, he or she is inevitably bitten once the animal reanimates itself. Also, with nuisance wildlife, especially squirrels and raccoons, there is nothing more vicious than a frothing-at-the-mouth mother protecting its nest. These animals have razor-sharp teeth and claws that can inflict extensive damage in a matter of seconds.

Wildlife can injure humans not only through bites and scratches, but also through their droppings. Animal droppings and urine are a toxic brew of viruses, bacteria, fungi, and parasites capable of transmitting a host of serious, potentially fatal, diseases to humans and their pets. Never allow a child or pet to go near standing water. Water contaminated by infected animal urine can pass diseases through mucous membranes and cuts in the skin, not just through consumption. Even the seemingly innocuous cottontail rabbit can be a carrier of tularemia, a serious bacterial disease, which is transmitted to people by contaminated water as well as ticks.

Perhaps the most known and feared of all wildlife diseases is rabies, a viral disease of the central nervous system that is spread when an infected animal bites or scratches. Raccoons, in addition to being common carriers of rabies, also transmit distemper and roundworm. Reiterated Cowley, Please let your children know that if they come across one of these masked bandits at a playground or anywhere outside, get away and stay away. Raccoons are one of the most dangerous nuisance wildlife in New Jersey. They are large and powerful. And if cornered or if they feel the need to protect their nest, these animals give new meaning to the word vicious.

Concluded Cowley, Children and adults must always remember the wild in wildlife. If nuisance critters have made their home in and around yours, it is a situation that requires immediate action. Contact a wildlife removal specialist with the experience to extract these animals safely and humanely. Having a wildlife removal problem handled by a professional will save yourself headaches and hassles — and possibly a few of your fingertips.

Center for Plastic Surgery Offers Spring Break Discounts

Annandale, VA (PRWEB) February 17, 2012

The Center for Plastic Surgery is pleased to announce skin health care specials for Spring Break. With these specials, patients seeking a youthful, natural appearance can prepare for the upcoming warm weather.

We are offering discounts on some of our more popular treatments, like Botox. Washington, DC patients can schedule their treatments now so they are in optimal condition for their spring break retreats. We would like to encourage our patients to schedule their procedures before the rush, ensuring that they can get an appointment time, states Martha Pena, a Skin Health Specialist working with Washington DC plastic surgeon Dr. G. Wesley Price.

One of the most popular procedures these plastic surgeons in Washington, DC perform is Botox, an injectable treatment that erases wrinkles for up to six months. They are offering Allergans 10-year Botox Anniversary Special, and patients can save up to $ 200 on this popular treatment, provided they have their treatment by April 30.

Juvaderm is another anti-aging treatment favored by patients. In February, patients will receive 10 percent off Juvederm treatments. This limited-time discount is only offered until the end of February as a Leap Year special.

Because laser hair removal gains popularity as patients prepare for swimsuit season, Center for Plastic Surgery is offering Marilys Laser Hair Removal Special. Some of the centers already discounted packages are now an additional 20 percent off, and all first single laser hair removal treatments are 10 percent off. Individuals interested in laser hair removal should consider scheduling an appointment soon as most patients typically require more than one laser treatment.

Patients often combine laser hair removal with other skincare treatments. For only $ 200, patients can receive the Jessner Peel and microdermabrasion treatments during the February promotion, saving them $ 150.

In addition to BOTOX and laser hair removal discounts, the Washington DC plastic surgeons at the Center for Plastic Surgery are reducing prices on permanent makeup solutions in February. The lips, eyes, and eyebrows can all be permanently lined, eliminating the need for continued application of makeup while enjoying the sun, sand, and surf on spring break. For a limited time, patients can save $ 250 on permanent makeup for each of these areas.

It is rare for us to offer this many amazing discounts at the same time, stated Ms. Pena. We are not going to have them much longer, so patients need to book their treatment soon as Spring Break and summer are just around the corner!

Center for Plastic Surgery

Established in 1986, Center for Plastic Surgery offers a unique approach to plastic surgery. CPS combines the aesthetic and surgical skills of three Washington DC plastic surgeonsDr. Albert F.
