Children’s Social Network Provider Slams MySpace’s Efforts On Keeping Children Safe Online

London, UK (PRWEB) February 5, 2009

Intuitive Media, providers of safe social networks for children between the ages of 6 and 14, today slammed reports that MySpace and Facebook have any serious measures to keep children safe online.

In response to MySpace’s reports of purging 90,000 sex offenders from its social network, Robert Hart, CEO of UK-headquartered Intuitive Media said, “That it took them two years to purge known names of sexual offenders listed in the public domain is in itself outrageous, but more worrying is that those websites can simply not protect against the offenders that haven’t been caught yet trying to sexually solicit children whether on or offline. Many social websites make perfect breeding grounds for future offenders.”

He goes on to say, “If you have both children and adults on a networking website it is almost impossible to police their interaction. Almost all online social networks have no ability to authenticate age and rely on an applicant’s honesty. So it’s not possible for them to prevent someone aged 11 posing as 18, or an adult of 35 posing as a 13-year-old. Without identity verification no social network is safe for children.”

Another huge problem, as identified by the recent Internet safety task force created by 49 state attorney generals in the U.S. and similarly by government studies in the UK and Europe, is the threat posed by bullying online amongst children. Again, social networks are unable in most instances to monitor or action such behaviour unless reported. By then the damage is done.

“Parents need to be aware of what their children are doing on line. That is one protection. Schools also need to teach safe internet behaviour. But the real key to safe social networking for children lies with the provider of the service: with age identification and validation of its users along with well-thought out levels of mediation,” says Hart, whose own social networks, with over a million members, have foolproof age verification, child authentication, and both automated and live mediation on the networks.

Hart continues, “We are the only online safe haven for kids up to 14 where they can learn how to behave safely and respectfully online and when they later go off to the adult networks, they are much better equipped to look after themselves.”

Home Health Software Provider Kinnser Software Contributes $150,000 to Austin Children’s Shelter

Austin, TX (PRWEB) December 1, 2010

Kinnser Software, Inc., a leading home health software firm based in Austin, Texas, announces its charitable donation of $ 150,000 in unrestricted funds to the Austin Childrens Shelter (ACS) to deliver services to children and young adults in central Texas. President Christopher Hester made the decision to contribute funds to the local organization based on his desire to help children and young adults to thrive at critical points in their lives.

Innovation is one of our core values. After visiting ACS, we knew that we wanted to support ACS innovative programs, which develop capable and independent members of our local community, said Hester. ACS provides a safe place to build skills to overcome lifes challenges and lead successful lives. Kinnsers contribution to ACS is part of our ongoing efforts to support organizations that deliver real solutions to challenging problems.

Incidence of child abuse and neglect are at alarming levels. Texas saw over 70 thousand confirmed child victims of abuse and neglect in 2008, according to statistics compiled from the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services. ACS protects members of the local Austin community by offering a safe haven for children, young adults and families who are in crisis. The organization provides critical services and quality care in a safe and nurturing environment, which promotes healing from the emotional traumas suffered by many of these youth. Now, with expanded programming offering long-term care and transitional living services, ACS can extend its sustaining, positive effect on young lives.

We are thrilled to welcome Kinnser Software as a corporate sponsor and thank Kinnser for demonstrating its long-term commitment to our organization and the children we serve, said Kelly White, chief executive officer for ACS. Support from the community is what makes the difference between simply providing basic needs and delivering services that build a foundation of success for every child.

Approximately 70 percent of the Shelters funding comes from community support, and as the agency grows to serve more children and youth, this support is vital. In 2010, ACS more than tripled the number of shelter care days provided over the previous year and it can potentially double that number in 2011 with increased support.

Continuing Education Provider Professional Development Resources Addresses New Florida Child Abuse Law

Jacksonville, Florida (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

Professional Development Resources has updated its online course on domestic violence, which includes modules on child abuse and intimate partner violence, to include the details of Floridas new child abuse law.

The new law, which took effect October 1, 2012, has a number of provisions that make it possibly the toughest child abuse law in the United States. Before the passage of this law officially called the Protection of Vulnerable Persons Act there was no legal requirement to report suspected abuse if the abuser was not a parent or caretaker.

According to a report in the Orlando Sentinel, Colleges and universities that knowingly and willfully fail to report suspected child abuse, abandonment or neglect or prevent another person from doing so now face fines of up to $ 1 million for each incident. And individuals who fail to report abuse and neglect face felony prosecution and fines up to $ 5,000.

The new law also makes reporting of child-on-child abuse mandatory for the first time. While previous laws have required reporting only when the suspected abuser was a parent or caretaker, the new statute applies to any abuser, even those who are children themselves, says the Sentinel article. Children 12 and under who are deemed perpetrators will be referred for treatment and therapy, but those 13 and up will be referred to law enforcement.

All 50 states have laws that mandate reporting of child maltreatment. Some states use more specific definitions of who is a mandated reporter. Others opt for more flexible verbiage in order to cast a wider net. In all states, healthcare providers are mandated reporters.

All mandatory reporting laws use intentionally vague descriptors of the level of concern or certainty the reporter must have in order to initiate a report. Some laws specify cause to believe or suspect in order to achieve the threshold for reporting. In order to encourage wider compliance, all mandatory laws include good faith exemptions from civil prosecution if it is ultimately determined that maltreatment cannot be substantiated.

In the State of Florida, mental health professionals are periodically required to complete a continuing education course on domestic violence. Professional Development Resources has updated its course Domestic Violence: Child Abuse and Intimate Partner Violence to update readers on the new protections and reporting requirements included in Floridas new child abuse law.

We are proud that the State of Florida has taken this initiative to help protect children, says Leo Christie, PhD, president of Professional Development Resources, Inc. We are taking advantage of the opportunity to pass along this new information to all of the professionals who rely on our company to keep them up to date on mandatory reporting of child abuse.

Edinburgh Napier University (ENU) Selects miiCard as Identity Provider for safi.re-Based Information Sharing Governance

Edinburgh, UK (PRWEB UK) 4 December 2012

Online identity verification company miiCard today announced that it will verify digital identities for ENUs online healthcare and childcare protection initiatives. ENU will use miiCards Level of Assurance 3 (LOA3) identity proofing service to safeguard sensitive healthcare and user data. With miiCard, ENU can prove a users identity to the level of an offline photo ID check before allowing policy-based access to the data in a controlled manner, enabling greater information sharing between organisations and within society.

These initiatives involve highly sensitive and private information, and it is critical that we know the identity of the person at the other end of the browser, said Professor Bill Buchanan, Professor of Computing at Edinburgh Napier University. miiCard delivers an unprecedented level of assurance and traceability when proving a users identity, and gives each user complete control over their own identity and what type of information they share online. It is only with this level of identity checking and trust that we can meet the UK governments three-year target for universal access to personal health records.

Edinburgh Napier University and miiCard will deploy their joint solution across three application areas:

1. Trusted Services for Holistic Care: This project focuses on developing a scaleable, robust and secure information architecture for holistic care that integrates information from primary and secondary care, along with the assisted living environment. The cloud-based platform employs a strong governance policy that integrates digital identity at its core to enable users to own their data, define access to it, and leverage it for a wide range of clinical services.

2. ee-Health Portal: Utilising the Trusted Services work, this broader solution incorporates a portal for clinical and social care services to verify the identity of a patient or citizen, and then allow them to access and share their personal health records.

3. Child Protection: In this integration with key Scottish and UK government initiatives, safi.re applies a federated identity infrastructure and information sharing system to a child concern portal where professionals across multiple agencies can monitor, share and implement action plans on behalf of at-risk children.

“We are proud to be a part of Edinburgh Napier Universitys pioneering safi.re solutions to important healthcare and child welfare needs online, enabling improvement in data sharing and ultimately quality of life for all of us as citizens, said miiCard CEO James Varga. These are powerful examples of the types of applications miiCard makes possible by creating true trust online.

miiCards Identity as a Service (IDaaS) platform can prove a users identity completely online and in just minutes. Using the authority and security inherent in a users online financial accounts to validate identity, miiCards LOA3 service is able to verify approximately 300 million users across nine countries and five continents today.

About miiCard

miiCard is a global online identity verification service that allows a user to prove for the first time that I am who I say I am purely online and in real-time. miiCard empowers consumers to build trust on social networks, trade and transact easily and with confidence, and proactively manage their online identity. Vendors accepting miiCard as proof of online identity can increase conversions, reduce cost of execution and augment fraud and identity theft protection. miiCard currently supports the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, India, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland and France.

About Edinburgh Napier Universitys safi.re

Information sharing is an essential business requirement, allowing companies and organisations to combine skills, information and processes to deliver better services or products to their customers or citizens. In recent years, the demand for significant sharing of sensitive information has outstripped technologys ability to deliver this requirement securely and consistently.

safi.re (Structured Analysis and Filtering InfoRmation Engine), developed within Edinburgh Napier University and supported by a Scottish Enterprise Proof of Concept project grant, looks to address this technology gap, providing a governance framework and architecture between departments or organisations that controls, protects and provides the information while ensuring all compliance and policy requirements are met.

Estimated that more than 25% of Dutch customers use a CpS provider for outbound calling.

(PRWEB) December 21, 2003

Research and Markets announces the addition of this brief entitled “Carrier pre Select cuts the ground from under KPN Netherlands”

KPN is loosing market share to Carrier pre Select companies. This brief takes a closer look at the figures and reasons why

More and more consumers are using Carrier pre Select (CpS) for outbound traffic. It is estimated that more than 25% of the Dutch customers use a CpS provider for outbound calling. In Q3-2003 CpS share in minutes of the total voice market increased to 32%. Meanwhile, KPN is losing market share at a steady rate since last year local calls are included in the carrier selection, and since the change of the CpS activation process to operator controlled.

KPN is forced to either reduce their cost base, or they must try to win back market share. The current fuss about slamming might be the first step for KPN to stop the decline in market share. CpS slamming is persistent, say OPTA, the Dutch regulator, but only a small problem, which does not justify the change of activation process KPN is implementing. According to Tele2, more than 1,200,000 households use Tele2 Carrier Select on a daily basis.
