Spring Lake, NJ (Vocus) October 28, 2009
One cosmetic dentist in Monmouth County, New Jersey is helping kids protect their teeth and giving back to U.S. soldiers oversees this Halloween. Dr. Peter Ciampi and Spring Lake Dental Care are participating in the Halloween Candy Buy Back program, an event growing in popularity across the country. For $ 1 per pound, Dr. Ciampi will pay trick-or-treaters to take this years candy haul off their hands then ship the treasure trove of sweets over to our men and women fighting in foreign lands. Kids are also encouraged to bring cards, drawings, and letters to the troops theyd like to send along with the candy.
Every year, kids across the globe consume about 2 percent more sugar than the last. With about 50 million tons of sugar being consumed annually, extra attention needs to be paid to make sure children are taking care of their teeth and gums to maintain oral health and prevent current and future dental problems. Moderating, or even staying away from candy altogether, can not only protect your child from broken teeth or damaged braces, it can also lessen the risk of developing weight problems or hyperactivity issues. And with the Halloween Candy Buy Back program, Dr. Peter Ciampi says children can get cash, protect their teeth, and contribute to a worthy cause all at the same time.
On Monday November 2nd from 3-6 pm, and Tuesday, November 3rd from 2-5pm, parents and their children can drop by Dr. Ciampis practice offering family and cosmetic dentistry in New Jersey. Candy will be weighed and Dr. Ciampi will pay $ 1 for every pound of sweets. After the candy is bought, Spring Lake Dental Care will ship the haul over to our soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Anyone can participate in the Halloween Candy Buy Back program, not just patients at Spring Lake Dental Care. Dr. Ciampi says the program covers so many worthy causes protecting young teeth and gums, giving something to our fighting men and women, and providing incentives for kids to stay away from too much sugar he looks forward to making Halloween Buyback an annual event.
And that may be enough to keep the little trick-or-treaters smiling for years to come.

When New Jersey soccer coach Alex Lalaoui from The Soccer Learning Center met Lillian Whitted, a 27-year-old Corrections Officer from Jersey City, he knew he had to help. A father of two, Lalaoui listened as Whitted, a single mother of two boys, told him about her struggles to keep her youngest son alive. Now Lalaoui is hoping for a Thanksgiving miracle for the family, hoping the community that Whitted protects as a Corrections Officer, now comes to her aid at a soccer tournament he is organizing on Sunday, November 22nd at St. Peter’s College in Jersey City.
Life wasnt like this a little more than a year ago for the young mother. Whitted was in a committed relationship. She was about to give birth to a second child. Her career as a respected Hudson County Corrections Officer was nearing its sixth year.

McCarter & English is pleased to announce that the New Jersey State Bar Association has awarded attorney Michael P. Pasquale with the 2010 “Annual Distinguished Legislative Services Award” for his work in drafting and advancing bill S-1963/A-3096. The bill revises the Family Law Act in New Jersey with respect to military child custody issues. As Chairman of the NJSBA Military Law Section, Mr. Pasquale was charged with the responsibility to have the law vetted from a military perspective by the Section, garner State Bar support and approval, as well as legislative approval. Approval of the bill will align the State with existing federal law under the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCPA).
The award will be presented today at NJSBAs Board of Trustees holiday luncheon. Attorneys Patricia Apy, Tim McGoughran and Stuart Pachman will also be recognized.
I am truly honored to be presented with this award, said Mr. Pasquale, who is a member of the firm’s Business & Financial Litigation Group. I also must thank Patricia for bringing me on board with this project. Her vision and determination has been the foundation for our work, which I believe to be the most important project that the NJSBA Military Law Section has pushed forward. It is another vital tool to address the various challenges facing soldiers returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. These changes we propose are in the best interests of the parents and, most importantly, the children.
Thousands of servicemembers nationwide must place their children with temporary custodial figures when deployed. This bill will allow them to maintain their primary custodial rights and avoid contested family litigation once theyve returned home. New Jersey will be joining 40 other states that have approved similar amendments, if the bill is passed.
Specifically, the bill ensures that 1) no permanent orders can be entered to change custody in the deployed servicemember’s absence, 2) time spent deployed is never a reason in and of itself to take away custody of a servicemembers child, and 3) the non-custodial parent, and not the servicemember, has the burden of filing an application to change custody upon the servicemembers return. This last measure serves to shift the burden of hiring an attorney from the returning soldier.
“The NJSBA is committed to advancing this legislation which we believe will balance the interests of New Jersey children in having a secure and stable environment against the need for soldiers defending our country to participate in training and multiple deployments,” said Susan A. Feeney, a partner at McCarter and President-Elect of the NJSBA. “I congratulate Mike, Patricia and the rest of the team on a job well done.”
“With more than 9,000 servicemembers from New Jersey, this legislation has the opportunity to provide comfort to many families within our State,” said William S. Greenberg, a partner at McCarter who established NJSBA’s Military Legal Assistance Program which helps New Jersey’s military reservists gain the services and benefits to which they are entitled. “I commend Mike for the work that he has done to help support the families of the brave men and women protecting us.”
The Legislative Services Award is one of the most prestigious honors bestowed upon members of NJSBA. Its purpose is to highlight those who have diligently worked to further advance the Associations legislative efforts.
The bill is expected to be voted on by the State in the first quarter of 2011.

By applying U.S. Special Forces sonar to swimming pool safety, the intelligent pool safety system SonarGuard, is the first and only water safety product integrated into the pool itself.
Our goal in developing SonarGuard is to allow families and their children to enjoy their backyard swimming pools with complete confidence, Robert Jechart, president of RJE Technologies, said. The stakes are too high in regard to a childs safety to not make every effort to create the best solution possible for the homeowners. Home security has evolved into a sophisticated application of detection technology; pool safety should be treated the same way.
SonarGuard Safeguards Pools with an Invisible Lifeguard
Jechart and his engineers set out to establish a new standard for swimming pool safety systems. He recognized the value of fencing and pool covers as safety barriers, however he steadfastly believed sonar technology applied below the surface could provide another layer of protection. Since the lives of young children are at stake, he reasoned, why not unleash the capability of todays technology to assure an enjoyable and safe backyard pool experience.
SonarGuard now offers homeowners, parents, grandparents and guardians an intelligent safety system that is integrated with the pool. SonarGuard is the first pool safety technology that creates an invisible, reliable safety net below the surface. If a child breaks the units sonar sound wave pattern, everyone in and around the home is immediately alerted. It is the invisible lifeguard.
Custom Pool Safety Provides Year Round Safety Solutions
Custom Pool Safety has provided pool safety solutions for over 25 years to customers in the Northeast. We were looking for the last layer of protection to add to our line of Meyco Safety Pool Covers and All-Safe Pool Safety Barriers, Bill Woods, Chief Operating Officer of C.P.S. said. SonarGuard is the only alarm that will provide the immediate detection and response needed in an actual emergency, in addition to allowing customers to control access to their pool around the clock.
Custom Pool Safety is committed to offering the finest safety products designed to ensure a pool environment all year long that complies with the recommendations of the National SAFE KIDS Campaign.
