Doe Run CEO Emphasizes Important Role Earth Science Plays in Natural Resources Industry

St. Louis, MO (PRWEB) August 6, 2007

Science is a discipline key to the success of The Doe Run Company, a global provider of metals and services.

That’s why the company donates its time, dollars and expertise to encourage science education. It’s also why Bruce Neil, president and chief executive officer, recently encouraged educators to inspire their students to embrace lifelong learning.

Neil was speaking July 26 to K-8 educators who traveled from across the state to attend the Missouri Minerals Education Foundation’s eighth annual workshop at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo. In addition to stressing the importance of earth science, Neil emphasized Doe Run’s commitment to sharing its collective knowledge with teachers and students.

“There’s a need in this country for increased aptitude in the sciences, so I was honored to be invited by the foundation to speak with teachers who are making science come alive for Missouri students,” Neil said. “It’s vital to the future success of Doe Run to support events like this, which serve as valuable resources for educators who are preparing the next generation of scientists and engineers.”

While earth science is essential for understanding how the world works, it’s certainly a subject that needs more attention, he explained to workshop participants.

Among 15-year-old students, the United States ranks 24th in science literacy, and the country ranks 20th in the number of 24-year-olds who earn degrees in natural science or engineering, according to a report published May 22, 2006, by the Congressional Research Service.

Furthermore, No Child Left Behind will expand next year to include science assessments, so teachers and administrators can get the data they need to help students improve science skills and better prepare for college and the work force.

During Neil’s workshop presentation, “Learning for a Lifetime,” he noted how Doe Run delivers information to students and teachers and actively communicates the importance of earth science, including a comprehensive Minerals Education program involving more than two dozen employees, regular educational tours and student-work programs.

“Teachers impart the knowledge and inspiration necessary to drive our future geologists, engineers, environmentalists and marketers,” Neil said. “Providing teachers and their students with hands-on learning experiences supports Doe Run’s commitment to a lifetime of learning and helps ensure a competitive work force.”

The annual Missouri Minerals Education Foundation workshop includes hands-on activities and presenters from the mining industry, government agencies and educational organizations. Hundreds of participating teachers from throughout the state get curriculum ideas for mineral and rock identification, environmental initiatives and everyday uses for minerals. For more information, visit http://www.mmef.org.

In addition to its involvement in the workshop, Doe Run’s Minerals Education Team travels to dozens of Missouri schools each year to lead hands-on experiments and student activities, ranging from creating crystals and identifying minerals to making toothpaste creations and mining chocolate chip cookies. PCI Member to Testify Industry is Healthy, Well-Regulated

Washington, D.C. (Vocus) September 24, 2009

J. Douglas Robinson, chairman and CEO of Utica, N.Y.-based Utica National Insurance Group, a Property Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI) member company, is scheduled to testify before the House Small Business Committee Wednesday to reiterate that home, auto and business insurers did not cause the current financial crisis, do not present systemic risk, and are already regulated effectively.

Robinson will tell the committee that these types of insurers are predominantly a Main Street industry that is already stable and competitive. He will ask legislators not to target new, consumer-costly regulations toward Main Street insurers such as his company–which insures schools, libraries, bakeries, child care centers, graphic arts businesses, small contractors, and funeral homes, among others.

“There is widespread recognition that home, auto and commercial insurers did not cause the financial crisis, are not systemically risky, and have strong and effective solvency and consumer protection regulation at the state level,” Robinson said. “Property-casualty insurers have not asked for government handouts, and our industry is stable and continuing to provide critical services to local economies and their communities.”

Robinson will urge the Obama Administration and Congress to target regulatory reforms toward where the problems occurred, rather than potentially creating fewer choices and greater costs for consumers by increasing bureaucratic requirements for systemically non-risky companies.

“PCI commends President Obama and Congress for working to ensure that the financial crisis we experienced last fall is never repeated,” Robinson said. “Achieving this goal requires a focus on fixing what went wrong with Wall Street, without imposing substantial new, ‘one-size-fits-all’ regulatory burdens on Main Street, small businesses and activities that are not highly leveraged or systemically risky.”

Robinson will also note several existing regulatory proposals that would have a substantial negative impact on small insurers and their customers if not modified, including:

ProCare Software First in Industry to Achieve Level One PCI Compliance

(Vocus/PRWEB) March 10, 2011

Medford, Oregon (Vocus) November 19, 2008 — ProCare Software, market leaders in the Childcare Management Software Industry and used in over 20,000 child care centers, announced today that its Tuition Express service has successfully completed a PCI DSS Level One audit. The audit was conducted by Coalfire of Seattle, Washington. ProCare Software demonstrated industry leadership by validating compliance to the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) for its Tuition Express service, says Rick Dakin, President of Coalfire. As the payment processing industry has been exploited by organized cyber crime in the past few years, ProCare Software responded by deploying a world class data protection program that builds confidence and trust for its customers and enables ongoing protection in the future.

PCI DSS was developed by VISA International, MasterCard, American Express, Discover and others to help organizations that process credit card payments prevent credit card fraud and various other security threats. The payment card companies require banks to ensure that companies that process, store or transmit payment card data demonstrate PCI DSS compliance or risk losing their authorization to process credit card payments.

In todays business environment, a company cant afford to take shortcuts when protecting their customers personal information. Most companies are waiting for more favorable business conditions to incur the expense of PCI compliance. We are very proud to be the only Childcare Management Software developer in the industry to become PCI Level One compliant, said Kurtis Hutsell, Vice President of Financial Operations and the companys Compliance Officer. Our company has always put data security at the forefront of operations. We underwent a rigorous, on-site security audit that covered over 250 compliance points. By becoming Level One compliant, we offer our clients certified security.

PCI DSS requirements demand a high level of technological expertise. The audit process validates a companys compliance with numerous requirements including building and maintaining a secure network, establishing programs that protect cardholder data and developing a comprehensive information security policy.

ProCare Software has dedicated engineers overseeing all technological aspects of the companys PCI compliance. From concept to implementation, security has always been a major focus of the Tuition Express architecture, said Darren Gapp, Chief System/Software Engineer. This focus has been strengthened by technological advances we have adopted over the years. Recently we separated the payment processing platform from all other internal networks, maximizing security in a way most processors are unable or unwilling to address. The results are an isolated and extremely secure processing system, utilizing industry accepted encryption standards that exceed Government requirements for securing sensitive information.

ProCare Software continues to lead the childcare industry in service and innovation. As the industry moves towards electronic payment services Tuition Express will be the model of data security. Tuition Express has never experienced a data compromise and we want to make sure that we are doing everything possible to mitigate any potential security incidents. By going through the PCI audit process weve been able to expand our existing security practices to a level few have achieved, said Jeffrey Blum, ProCare Softwares President. Our Tuition Express service is used by thousands of centers and hundreds of thousands of parents. In validating compliance with the PCI standards, ProCare Software has reaffirmed its commitment to data security and in turn has strengthened our brand as the market leader in the Childcare Management Software arena. We are very proud of our position in the industry and are confident our Tuition Express service will maintain its leadership role for years to come.

Elite Email Among First Email Marketing Service Providers to Adopt Email Experience Council’s New Industry Standards

Toronto, Ontario (PRWEB) November 30, 2011

Elite Email is proud to have adopted the Email Experience Council’s new reporting standards. As a result, and after a successful audit, Elite Email is now amongst the first email marketing service providers to achieve the “Email Measurement Accuracy” seal. The purpose of the “Email Measurement Accuracy” seal is to inform email marketers of the service provider’s commitment to industry standards for fair and accurate measurement of email metrics.

One of the major hurdles email marketers face is a lack of consistent standards for email metrics. For over two years the Email Measurement Accuracy Roundtable of the EEC wrestled with this problem, debated the definitions of various metrics, and ultimately unveiled a list of specific standardized terms to help provide better clarity in the email marketing industry. So far, seven ESP’s have adopted the S.A.M.E. (Support Adoption of Metrics for Email) standards and Elite Email is thrilled to be part of this evolutionary next phase of the email marketing industry.

“We are really excited to be one of the select few email marketing solutions providers that have adopted the new standards and believe that having consistent, clearly defined terminology will benefit both the email marketing industry as a whole, as well as the customer who can now make better comparisons across providers,” says Robert Burko, President of Elite Email.

With the email marketing industry growing at a rapid pace, having no set of standard terminology and definitions was leading to a great deal of confusion. The Email Measurement Roundtable identified two major problems they sought to resolve:

1. A lack of standards makes benchmarking based upon a clear apples-to-apples comparison practically impossible.

2. When email marketers migrate from one vendor or system to another, they often find the methods of calculating key metrics differ from one system to another.

The variety of ways email marketing programs defined things like “open rate” and “click rate” led to inconsistencies from one vendor to another. This caused unnecessary confusion for beginner and veteran email marketers alike.

“When customers are switching from their current provider to Elite Email, they often ask great questions. But without any specific standards, to some extent we’re speaking a different language”, says Matthew Georgiadis, Vice-President of Business Development at Elite Email, “Now that Elite Email is in full compliance and passed the EEC audit, it’s up to the other email marketing vendors to catch up and make things easier for all marketers.”

Service providers that adopt and comply with the EEC’s email marketing measurement standards will be given an official seal to display on their web site and marketing collateral.

“The shape of the email marketing industry tomorrow will be based on what we do today. By creating these great standards, the Email Experience Council has provided us with a clear framework. And by adopting the standards, Elite Email is helping to further propel this initiative forward”, says Burko.

Full details about the “Support the Adoption of Metrics for Email” project can be found on the Email Experience Council website, http://www.emailexperience.org.

Additional Conference Sessions

New Federal Regulation Targeting Tax Debt Resolution Companies: The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) and the Financial Fraud Enforcement Taskforce

On June 23, 2011 the Bureau of Consumer Financial Protection (CFPB) issued its Federal Register Notice for defining “larger” non-depository industry participants. The Notice outlined the industries that the Bureau will immediately seek to regulate.

One of the industries to be regulated is “debt relief services” which includes providers of services that “offer to reduce medical or tax debt.”

The newly created Consumer Protection Working Group of the federal Financial Fraud Enforcement Taskforce has stated that it will work across federal law enforcement and regulatory agencies, and with state and local partners, to strengthen efforts to address consumer issues, including schemes targeting vulnerable populations, such as the unemployed, those in need of payday loans, and those suffering from the burden of high credit card and other debt.

The Future of Deferred Enforcement of the Federal Trade Commissions Telemarketing Sales Rule

On October 17, 2010 the Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR) became effective thus regulating “debt relief services” which included individual or companies that negotiate or settle “tax debts owed to the government.”

The same day the TSR became effective, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) issued a policy statement that it was unclear if tax debts are “unsecured” one of the triggering elements of the TSR. In this session you will learn the history and current status of the treatment of tax debt in the TSR and the FTCs work to regulate the industry.

Continuing Education Requirements and Compliance Solutions

Enrolled agents, certified public accountants, attorneys, registered tax return preparers all have differing requirements for continuing education and compliance. This session will review the current “what” you have to do as well as provide the “how” to remain compliant to represent taxpayers before the IRS.

View of the Industry from the U.S. Senate

The Congressional football of jurisdiction over tax debt resolution companies and their IRS approved employees is being bounced around from Committee to Committee with each claiming some part of the industry but not the industry as a whole. Learn the perspective of the Senates view of the issue in comparison to that of the House of Representatives.

Referrals, Lead Generators and Marketing on the Internet

The increasing use of a “person that, in the regular course of business, supplies a provider with the name of a potential customer, directs a communication of an individual to a provider, or otherwise refers a customer to a provider” brings a host of opportunity and a wide variety of legal challenges. In this session you will learn how the laws of deceptive advertising, unfair and deceptive trade practices and liability for “down-stream” users of referrals can impact your business.

View of the Industry from the U.S. House of Representatives

In this session you will be briefed on the House of Representatives perspective of the FTCs efforts to regulate tax debt resolution service providers, current efforts to protect consumers and the prospects for the introduction of legislation that will regulate the industry.

Federal and State Legislative and Regulatory Briefing

Mark Guimond, the state and federal lobbyist for the TPRSC, will brief you on the current status of recent proposals to regulate the industry including the still-deferred Telemarketing Sales Rule (TSR), California Senate bill 708, legislation proposed to Congress, the state Attorneys General proposal and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.

Human Capital Industry Gets New Focus with Launch of i4cp

St. Petersburg, FL (PRWEB) November 29, 2006

Today marks the launch of The Institute for Corporate Productivity (i4cp, inc.), a new company focused on being the premier institute to improve workforce productivity and bottom-line results within corporations. With the numerous and complex issues facing the human capital industry today, the company has been created on a foundation of four primary offerings: research, community, tools and technology. To augment these four pillars, i4cp also announced today that the company has signed a definitive letter of agreement to purchase the assets of the Human Resource Institute (HRI), one of the most respected and well-known research firms in the human capital industry.

The new venture has been founded by industry veterans Kevin Oakes, the former president of SumTotal Systems, Debbie McGrath, the founder of HR.com, and Jay Jamrog, the Executive Director of HRI. Oakes will step into the role of i4cp’s CEO, McGrath will be the companys Chair and Jamrog will be the company’s SVP of Research.

“Today’s forward-thinking CEOs recognize — maybe now more than ever — that employees are their most valuable asset when it comes to generating long-term growth and value,” said Oakes. “Improving the productivity of the workforce is paramount to success and — with a looming labor shortage on the horizon along with several other key challenges — the attraction, retention and development of an organization’s employees are the largest issues affecting corporate productivity today.”

Prior to his new role as CEO of i4cp, Oakes was most recently the President of SumTotal Systems (NASDAQ: SUMT), the largest learning management system company in the world, and he is currently a member of SumTotals board of directors. Before SumTotal, Oakes was the CEO and Chairman of Click2learn (NASDAQ: CLKS), which merged with Docent (NASDAQ: DCNT) to form SumTotal in early 2004. Oakes is also currently the Chairman of the Board of ASTD, the largest association in the world dedicated to workplace learning and performance, with over 70,000 members worldwide.

“While there is a lot of talk in the industry about managing human capital, human resources or talent management, these terms are really only a means to an end — the end being improved productivity. Thats why we chose the name The Institute for Corporate Productivity — to signify clearly what we feel is most important to senior leaders,” said Oakes. “i4cp helps our clients improve overall productivity through a combination of leading-edge research, a community of industry experts and peers, tools to help organizations effectively execute on strategy and benchmark results and the technology to automate processes. Our acquisition of the assets of HRI, which I consider to be an undiscovered gem in the industry, will allow us to utilize the most experienced researchers in the industry and have access to some of the largest and most progressive companies in the world.”

HRI is considered one of the worlds leading research institutes devoted to the practical and strategic management of people. A non-profit, 501(c)3 organization based in St. Petersburg, FL, HRIs mission has been to promote strategic thinking regarding the major issues affecting the human resource profession today and the trends that are shaping the future. Since its founding at the University of Michigan in 1965, HRI has amassed over four decades of information on the human capital industry, and over that time HRI has been providing its clients with rapid, reliable and respected research and analysis surrounding all facets of the management of people in organizations.

HRI has well over 100 long-term customers made up of some of the worlds best-known companies, including 3M, American Express, Bank of America, Coca-Cola, Deloitte and Touche, EDS, ExxonMobil, Federal Express, Fidelity Investments, Ford, Home Depot, Ingram Micro, Intel, Johnson & Johnson, McDonalds, Merck, Motorola, the New York Stock Exchange, Nike, Pfizer, Prudential, Raytheon, Shell, Sony, Sun Microsystems, Verizon, Wachovia, Wells Fargo, Weyerhauser and Xerox, among many others. Through an annual subscription these companies access over 10,000 pages of new research per year, along with numerous trend reports, strategy updates, white papers and presentations on over 150 human capital and workforce productivity issues which HRI monitors on an ongoing basis.

“The challenges faced by today’s human capital professionals are varied and in many cases unknown. Organizations need a trusted advisor that can help them predict future trends and next practices, while offering them the knowledge and tools they need to plan and execute their initiatives at the right speed. i4cp’s mission, along with the wealth of experience coming from HRI, will allow us to be that trusted advisor to organizations,” said Jamrog.

Jamrog is a Distinguished Lecturer at the University of Tampa, Florida, and has devoted over 20 years to identifying and analyzing the major issues and trends affecting the management of people in organizations. As i4cps new SVP of Research, Jamrog will build upon this experience to continue a tradition of producing the industrys most forward-thinking, decision-grade independent research.

“HRI offers three unique differentiators that create value for us,” said Bruce Erenkrantz, VP, Worldwide Associate Assessment and Development, Ingram Micro Inc. “First is the research they do on emerging issues, looking toward the future. They track a variety of trends and uncover the implications for HR. Secondly, they conduct relevant just-in-time research based on their extensive member community. The research incorporates industry trends and best practices so they can provide practical advice based on a company’s needs and placed in the context of how it affects the organization. Thirdly, they offer an extensive collection of research and trend data across 64 major knowledge centers,” said Erenkrantz. “I look forward to the new i4cp continuing and enhancing these capabilities, and congratulate the company on its launch.”

Continuing a 35-year-old HRI tradition, i4cp will formally launch its new products and services to its members at the companys Annual Conference on February 7 – 9, 2007, at the Don CeSar Beach Resort and Spa in St. Petersburg, Florida. The conference features industry-leading speakers from Wal-Mart, Motorola, Cingular, the Office of Personnel Management, Stanford and Cornell Universities, among others. More details on the conference and on the Institute for Corporate Productivity can be found at http://www.i4cp.com.

Greater Gift Initiative, Inc., in conjunction with PMG Research, Inc., announced today that Jennifer Byrne, President and Founder of Greater Gift Initiative and President and CEO of PMG Research, has been recognized by CenterWatch as one of 20 Innovators Changing the Face of the Clinical Trials Industry. CenterWatch, a leading source of data and information analysis on clinical trials, marks its twentieth anniversary this year and is honoring forward-thinking individuals within the industry who share a commitment of developing and implementing new approaches to re-shape the drug development process.

Among her contributions is her vision and resulting foundation of Greater Gift Initiative, whose mission is to advance global health and highlight the greater good of clinical trial participation by gifting a vaccine to a child in need in honor of each clinical trial volunteer. On behalf of PMG Research, the Greater Gift Initiative has donated 18,700 vaccines through partnerships with the GAVI Alliance and Rotary Internationals End Polio Now campaign. The Greater Gift Initiative began under the PMG Research umbrella but is now a not-for-profit organization that expanded this year to include other research site networks.

Ms. Byrne, who would like to see vaccine donations an industry standard for honoring volunteers, is committed to elevating the role of the clinical trial process in support of this mission to advance global health and believes that its important to reinforce that what we do really is meaningful and does make a difference. Clinical trial participants are helping shape the healthcare of tomorrow by giving researchers the opportunity to gather information about the effectiveness of medications theyre trying to get to market. Without volunteers to participate in clinical trials, new medications cannot be developed and become available to the public. PMG Research is extremely grateful for the willingness of thousands of volunteers that have trusted us over the past 34 years and have made such an enormous impact on the quality of life we enjoy every day. Were applauding and recognizing our volunteers by passing on the good will to another person whose life may be saved by receiving the vaccination, said Ms. Byrne. In essence, participating in a trial with PMG Research allows for an opportunity to help future generations in more than one way.

Greater Gift Initiative and GAVI Alliance have been selected as a finalist in the Best Vaccine Partnership / Alliance category for the 6th annual Vaccine Industry Excellence (ViE) Awards.
