Oceanside, CA (PRWEB) October 8, 2007
Lt. Col. Neil Levin USMC, (Ret), CEO and Publisher, Leatherneck Publishing, Div. of Levin Publishing Group, LLC, today announced that Soldier of Fortune Magazine, the elite and definitive publication for the professional military, government, and commercial trooper, honors Leatherneck Publishing in their forthcoming December 2007 issue. It features significant excerpts from this best seller and award winning book. Says Robert K. Brown, Editor/Publisher of Soldier of Fortune, “‘Street Fight in Iraq’ chronicles and exposes what is really going on over there. I felt it necessary to bring this important resource to the attention of our 150,000 readers.” Established in 1975, Soldier of Fortune Magazine is the industry leader in military and protective services publications.
If you wonder what it’s like fighting with the US Marine Corps Expeditionary Forces in Iraq, you are in for a hair raising ride when you read Leatherneck Publishing’s latest book release by Gunnery Sergeant, now 1st Sgt Patrick Tracy. A seasoned 19-year Marine Corps Warrior of many battles, GySgt Tracy takes you second by second on heart pounding, breath stopping missions through the streets of Ramadi seeking out the terrorists who hide in the shadows of inhumanity. Around the next corner awaits a surprise ambush, a massive fire fight or a little child wired for your touch. GySgt Tracy is a master at describing each moment as he lived it. He recorded each event in his personal mission log over a seven month tour of duty in one of the hottest combat zones, Ramadi, Iraq.
“Street Fight in Iraq” relates with great candor the unvarnished realities of dealing with day to day combat in and around Ramadi. You will be shocked, fascinated, outraged and frustrated when you read about the fight for Democracy and Peace in Iraq. This book is about Marines who made the journey to combat and the unbelievable events that followed. Called, “down and dirty,” the language is harsh, the writing brutally honest and the message clear. This is a definite “must read” for military and civilians alike. This book is available directly from Leatherneck Publishing Online Bookstore,
“Our mission is to provide a venue to every military person, Marine, Army, Air Force, Navy and Coast Guard with a story to tell,” says Levin. “We have a commitment to not only publish, but to help each of our authors realize their potential to become the best. Also, we function as a marketing aggregator for independent self publishers to expand their distribution in the market place through our book distribution operations.”

Sarah Haselop, associate attorney at the San Francisco family law firm Heath-Newton LLP, was honored by the UC Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies (CGRS) on Wednesday, April 10 for her pro bono work on the San Francisco Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights (LCCR) asylum program.
For four years, Haselop has provided pro bono legal representation to individuals seeking refuge in the United States. She has provided direct representation in many cases involving gender-based violence against women in their country of origin.
The United States is, and always has been, a safe harbor for individuals who have found the strength and courage to leave everything behind their home countries to find a new and better life for themselves, says Haselop. It is my deep honor to help these brave people.
In addition to her counsel, Haselop has helped mentor fellow attorneys and conducted intake interviews for the LCCR. Due to the nature of her clients claims, Sarah has worked with the CGRS at UC Hastings College of Law, which has been instrumental in providing the resources to create legal argument and identify case precedents in asylum law.
According to the CGRS, thousands of migrants flee the violence and persecution of their native countries and seek refuge in the United States every year. Many of them cant read or write in English and come from countries that do not guarantee the right to due process.
Because of this, these victims are rendered virtually helpless when it comes to understanding the complex U.S. immigration and asylum laws and are unable to obtain sound legal advice. It is up to pro bono attorneys, organized and supported by groups such as the LCCR and the CGRS, to fill this gap.
About the UC Hastings Center for Gender and Refugee Studies
UC Hastings College of the Law was founded in 1878 as the first law department of the University of California. The Center for Gender & Refugee Studies (CGRS) provides legal expertise, training, and resources to attorneys representing asylum seekers, advocates for the protection of refugees and advancement of refugee law and policy, and uses domestic, regional, and international human rights mechanisms to address the root causes of persecution. With a special place in her heart for the armed forces who protect the United States, Salisbury-based psychologist Dr. Kathy Seifert and her behavioral health company, Eastern Shore Psychological Services, have gone above and beyond their call of duty, providing extraordinary support for Maryland National Guard members and their families. As a token of their appreciation for unwavering assistance, she and her company will be awarded a mission flag during a fundraising event hosted by a local non-profit organization, A Taste of Home Inc., on Tuesday, May 22nd.
Employing over eighty-five members on staff, Dr. Seifert has created a culture at Eastern Shore Psychological Services (ESPS) that places the needs of soldiers, their spouses, staff, and family members high on their priority list. They understand the difficulties of deployment for the families left at home, are flexible with the schedules of staff members who have family in the National Guard, and, in partnership with A Taste of Home Inc., have made supportive counseling available to soldiers in need.
As a result of extraordinary effort, she and ESPS will be receiving a mission flag, flown in their honor during an actual military mission, which also comes with a certificate signed by participating airmen.
Ive always had tremendous pride in the men and women of the National Guard and Reserves, says Dr. Seifert. These people and their families have made monumental sacrifices for our country already, so its our duty as civilians to help make their lives easier moving forward. Its an amazing feeling to be recognized for our efforts with this mission flag, yet there is nothing better than just being able to assist these courageous people. This award only further underscores the importance of supporting the armed forces.
The mission flag will be presented during the sixth annual fundraiser hosted by A Taste of Home Inc., an organization founded by Dr. Bob Strahl that supports troops by directly donating food, goods, and gifts to soldiers overseas. The fundraiser will consist of a golf outing during the day at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City, MD, followed by a reception and the award ceremony during the evening.
