High Tech Solution to the “Sexting” Epidemic

Houston, TX (PRWEB) January 17, 2009

The current “sexting” epidemic and the recent arrests of 6 Pennsylvania teens have parents scrambling to find solutions to a problem that surfaced seemingly overnight.

Sexting is the act of sending nude or explicit photos of oneself through the cell phone network or Internet to another cell phone. While this has undoubtedly been happening for quite some time it has just now gained media attention and parents are starting to pay attention.

What teens see as a joke or innocent fun is turning into one sticky mess that could land them in jail with possible probation or even prison time. What’s worse is the scarlet letter that follows. Being labeled as a registered sex offender stays with a person for life. It automatically disqualifies you from jobs that most people take for granted and could one day prevent you from doing something as simple as dropping off and picking up your own child from daycare or school.

“Our phones have been ringing off the hook,” says Jon Marshall, CEO of SpyGadgets.com in Houston, TX. “Parents just want to protect their kids and they are scared. Nobody wants to see their child end up in prison or have their future ruined just because of something like this.” Marshall sells a cell phone spy device that is used to recover data from the SIM card found in some cell phones on the market. It can let you view text messages stored to the SIM card, even deleted text messages. While it won’t recover pictures from the phone, reading the messages will give a parent an idea of what their teen is texting.

Cell phone companies are scrambling to give parents the tools to help combat this problem but it could be too little, too late. The “Cell Phone Spy Ultra” Spygadgets carries sells for under $ 170.00 and is ready to ship today. “I believe in trusting your kid and having open conversations but what about their friends? Who knows what they are sending your kid. Simply possessing an image of someone under 16 that is questionable could be considered child porn. And if the parent has even the tiniest bit of suspicion I highly suggest they take the extra step and just see for themselves what’s on that cell phone,” says Marshall.

Most adults don’t have the time to learn the ins and outs of cell phones and features available today were not even dreamed of 10 years ago. Marshall suggests that if you try to access your child’s cell phone and there is a lock code and you don’t know what it is you should be concerned. “Why does a kid need to keep you out of their cell phone with a secret code? This would raise my level of suspicion immediately,” he adds.

While the Cell Phone Spy only works on phones that use a SIM card there are other solutions. Cell phone stores commonly have the ability to access a cell phone by the USB or data port and retrieve contacts, pictures, and text messages. Contact your local carrier and see if they offer this service.

Smart Horizons Career Online High School Provides Critical Education for Students in Need of an Accessible High School Diploma

Tallahassee, FL (PRWEB) October 6, 2010

Smart Horizons Career Online High School(SHCOHS) opened last May with the specific intention to help adults in our nation who have not completed a high school education. This is a significant population, and now more than ever, with jobs being scarce, a high school diploma, coupled with a career certificate is critical. The schools goal is to quickly and in a cost effective manner provide students the education they need so they can compete in the work force. SHCOHSs inaugural cohort of students is finishing up their graduation requirements. These students are encouraged about the opportunities that will now be available to them.

Betsaida Marrero is one of these students. Marrero is a twenty-four year old, single mother of three. She is completing the education process that was interrupted after her tenth-grade year by the birth of her first child. It was hard to go back to school after I had the baby, Marrero said. You have to make a lot of decisions when you become a parent and I decided I needed to work for my child, but I never lost the dream of completing my education. I am now able to work on this goal thanks to the Smart Horizons Career Online High School program. I can do it on my own time and in my home, which is very convenient. Taking online high school courses works extremely well with my busy schedule.

In addition to earning her high school diploma, Marrero is also completing course work for a career certificate in office management through the Smart Horizons Career Online High School program.

I completely love the way the program is designed, Marrero said. I am able to understand everything very well, and I also love the fact that I am able to finish high school and get a career certificate as well.

Marrero said that the SHCOHS program is helpful because it allows her to both read and hear all the information she needs on a given topic. She also likes the way the program helps her to understand a topic by showing her the parts of the topic she did not understand.

Just knowing that Im accomplishing this goal to finish school helps me to know that I can look forward to a brighter future both mentally and economically, Marrero said.

Another student, Vaughn Jones is about to celebrate her 50th birthday, but shes already giving herself a valuable gift by obtaining the high school diploma that eluded her so many years ago. Smart Horizons Career Online High School is making it possible.

Smart Horizons Career Online High School is giving me the opportunity to obtain something Ive been trying to get since 1978, Jones said, referring to that high school diploma. Jones, who lives in Pahokee, Florida, is also completing course work for a career certificate in Childcare & Education. The ability to earn online high school credits has helped simplify her life.

I started out with the career certificate part of the program and Im almost done with that, Jones said. Ive just started the high school classes and I think this is going to be the most interesting part. Its a good program and I especially like the math courses.

Jones, who is married and has four grown children, said it was hanging with the wrong crowd that cost her high school diploma in her youth. I was trying to fit in and I let myself be influenced, she said. Jones completed the eleventh grade, but left school shortly after starting her senior year.

Getting this accredited online diploma is going to give me more opportunities than Ive had, Jones said. Most jobs require a high school diploma and this is going to open doors for me.

The Foster Group welcomes the addition of its newest partner to their Arizona office, David Lujan. Davids area of practice will focus on education law, employment matters, public policy issues, and a variety of other matters given his diverse and rich background. In 2010, David was a candidate for Arizona Attorney General. He also served for eight years as a member of the Phoenix Union High School District Governing Board, including two years as the Board President.

One of the reasons I became a lawyer is to make sure that people get justice within our system, states Lujan. People need someone who can help them navigate the legal system; which in and of itself can be overwhelming. The slightest mistake can permanently derail even the noblest of causes. Ive been in the courtrooms dealing with cases and Ive legislated Arizonas state laws. I understand the challenges our citizens, businesses, and institutions face and look forward to the opportunity to continue to be a part of the solution with The Foster Group. As a partner with The Foster Group, I will continue to make a difference.

David was an Assistant Attorney General where he successfully represented the State of Arizona on a variety of public education issues including serving as the States attorney for a $ 1.4 billion school construction program and on the Open Meeting Law Enforcement Team. David also worked as an attorney for the National Labor Relations Board and as the attorney for a non-profit organization which provides legal services to help children who are victims of abuse. He is co-author of the book Child Advocacy 101 which examines the child protection systems in America.

Were absolutely thrilled that David has joined our team. Hes an amazing talent. His passion, skill, and legal intellect truly go unparalleled. David is one of the finest lawyers in Arizona, says Kristen Foster, managing partner of The Foster Group. David has had such a positive impact on the state of Arizona, especially in the areas of education and child welfare. We fully expect that trend to continue in the years to come.

David is the recipient of the 2010 Association of Family and Conciliation Courts Public Policy Award, the 2009 National Association of Social Workers Legislator of the Year Award, and the 2009 Greater Phoenix Child Abuse Prevention Council’s Cherish the Children Award in Media/Public Policy. He received the 2009 Cesar Chavez Continuing the Legacy Award from the Latino Law Student Association of William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota. In 2008, he received the “Golden Apple Award” from the AZ Parents for Education in recognition for his continued support for public education, the 2006 Arizona Students Associations Legislator of the Year Award, and the Arizona Business and Education Coalitions Legislative Partner Award. He is also a volunteer attorney coach for the Central High School mock trial team.

Federal Report Finds High Fluoride Consumption Damaging to Children

Somis, CA (PRWEB) February 21, 2011

News Facts:

In January of this year, The United States Federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) announced that fluoride levels in tap water are too high.
Fluoride, originally credited with reducing tooth decay, has been the source of civic debate for many years both in the US and abroad. In the US, in addition to fluoride in the water, children are often given fluoride toothpaste and even fluoride supplements.
New evidence shows that 2 out of 5 children suffer from a condition called fluorosis, where fluoride intake has reached toxic levels. Symptoms include white spots on teeth and pitting in the tooth enamel which is aesthetically unappealing.
While fluorosis is currently the main concern behind the HHS announcement, a more alarming issue is that if a child under the age of six swallows larger-than-normal amounts of fluoride toothpaste, it can be fatal, which is why there is a warning on all toothpastes containing fluoride. To further complicate this situation, children are often attracted to toothpaste because of its candy-like taste, creamy texture and/or bright sparkly coloring.
The HHS plans to lower the recommended levels for fluoride in water to 0.7 milligrams per liter of water. This is the first decrease in 50 years, where until now fluoride levels have been 0.7 to 1.2 milligrams per liter.
Safer Alternatives for Your Children

These health concerns have led to an increased interest in fluoride free toothpaste with xylitol.
Several studies are reporting xylitol, a sugar alcohol sweetener, has similar cavity fighting properties as fluoride and is a safe substitute. In fact, the positive effects of xylitol may be more than fluoride for healthy teeth and gums.
In 2007, Dr. Peter Milgrom, professor of dental public health sciences at the University of Washington and director of the Northwest Center to Reduce Oral Health Disparities, found that xylitol could be more effective than fluoride.
Xylitol, found in both chewing gun and toothpaste, stops oral bacteria from emitting acid that causes tooth decay and makes it difficult for bacteria to adhere to tooth surfaces.
Dr. Milgroms study monitored 100 infants as they received varying dosages of xylitol syrup each day for a year. They concluded that the syrup prevented 50 percent to 75 percent of tooth decay in the toddlers. If you give children regular fluoride treatments two to three times a year, you would get a 30 percent reduction in tooth decay, Milgrom said. We got double the amount of tooth decay prevention using xylitol.
For those who want a healthy smile, but are concerned about their familys fluoride consumption, fluoride free toothpaste with xylitol or xylitol chewing gum are better choices that fluoride toothpaste and supplements.

About Cleure:

Cleure was founded in 2000 by Dr. Flora Stay, with the creation of the Cleure dental health line, which contain Xylitol rather than fluoride, and were also sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS) free, anti-microbial free, chlorine dioxide free, peroxide/PRG/PGG free, saccharine free, salicylate free.
Today, Cleure specializes in SLS free and fluoride free dental health products, personal care products for salicylic acid allergy, as well as skin care and cosmetics for sensitive skin.
Cleure is founded on the principal that you can be healthy and beautiful without the risk of potential toxins and irritants.
Dr. Stay understood the importance of providing her patients with a quality, chemically safe toothpaste. She quickly discovered, however, that many of the popular natural toothpastes also carried harmful ingredients. For example, most natural toothpastes contained sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a harsh detergent added to toothpastes, shampoos and other personal care products to make the product foam. SLS has been linked to outbreaks of canker sores, allergies and various health concerns. Likewise, Dr. Stay found that most of the natural toothpastes use aluminum tubes, which can leach aluminum into the paste over time.
These discoveries led her to the revelation that, Just because something is natural, doesnt mean it is good for you. It is more important to look for truly safe and effective products than it is for natural products.
Dr. Stays principled scientific approach to dental health has expanded into many other aspects of personal care. Cleure is now a team of science and health experts, who incorporate their latest research into on-going product development and improvement.
Today, Cleure is at the forefront, formulating and marketing a complete line of salicylate-free, paraben-free, fragrance-free dental care and personal health products including sensitive skin care and make-up for sensitive skin.

High School Football Kickoff Signals the Annual Rush of Youth Tooth Losses, says San Antonio Cosmetic Dentist

San Antonio, TX (PRWEB) September 28, 2011

High school football kicked off around the country this month, ushering in another year of youth sports, during which 3 million student teeth are expected to be lost, says veteran San Antonio cosmetic dentist Edward Camacho, DDS.

Athletics are an important part of health and social growth,Dr. Camacho said. But they provide risks to childrens mouths that can have long-term consequences. Its vital that parents understand and guard against these risks, and know first-aid procedures that may save a tooth thats been knocked out.

According to the National Youth Sports Safety Foundation, about 3 million teeth will be knocked out as about 30 million youths participate in athletics this year. In fact, the U.S. Surgeon General reports that craniofacial injuries account for a full third of all non-fatal sports injuries overall. And its not just football, with its violent clashes of pads and helmets.

Basketball and baseball are the two biggest mouth-injuring sports, reports Dr. Stephen Mitchell, of the University of Alabamas Department of Pediatric Dentistry. And the most common injuries we see are broken, displaced or knocked-out teeth, and broken jaws.

In part, this is because mouthguards and face-protecting helmets are not required for many sports, as they are in football, hockey and lacrosse. Mitchell recommends custom-fit mouthguards as the most effective insurance against tooth trauma for youth with permanent teeth. For younger children, with baby teeth, he recommends over-the-counter mouthguards that can be heated and molded to the teeth since their dentition is in transition.

About a quarter of dental injuries can still occur with mouthguards in place. Quick first-aid action and dental treatment may save a lost tooth, Dr. Camacho said. And the cost of not acting quickly to save a permanent tooth can be dramatic.

The National Youth Sports Safety Foundation estimates that the cost to treat a lost permanent tooth and provide followup care ranges from $ 5,000 to $ 20,000 over a lifetime.

If a tooth is broken or cracked, parents should get the young athlete to the dentist within 24 hours, Dr.Camacho said. But if the tooth is knocked out, there is no time to wait. Action must be taken within minutes to have the best chance to save the tooth. First aid steps include:

Education is a Must for Child Safety During the Upcoming ‘High Alert’ Halloween Holiday

Miami, FL (PRWEB) October 24, 2011

Times have changed. The days of children riding bikes alone until dark may be over, but Bryant Security, a Miami security services company is taking steps toward child safety that are changing communities for the better. With Halloween around the corner, Bryant instills parental peace of mind while kids have fun while staying safe by offering seminars and increased security during the holiday.

Each year, before the new school year begins Bryant Security gives free seminars during the teacher planning days. A Bryant Security Specialist speaks to parents, teachers and administrators on how to take extra precautions, what suspicious activity to look for, and how to relay safety and security through the student body. Although there are many devices which can keep you safe, safety must still be an aware state of mind, and this must be taught at a very young age. comments Rene Zerquera, the Field Operations Manager for Bryant Security. Year after year, Bryant continues to come up with innovative ways to protect students through education and hands on activities. This Halloween season, Bryant Security will kick up their patrolling in malls, schools and at events-to give the community an added feeling of safety.

As Troops Come Home, Life Insurance Remains A High Priority For Military Spouses–America’s Top Insurance Lawyer, Frank N. Darras Offers Tips

Ontario, CA (PRWEB) May 15, 2012

The military is known for the exceptional benefits it provides to soldiers and their families. If a soldier is killed in action, spouses are well taken care of as dependents. Before every deployment, most husbands or wives are used to checking over the aspouses will and ensuring everything is in order before deployment. But how often do family members staying at home, review their own wills, asks Frank N. Darras, America’s top insurance lawyer.

As a military spouse, you play an integral part in supporting your family, and your country. Often, military spouses dont see the need for life insurance, either because they arent the primary breadwinner or have chosen to stay home. But consider the high cost to the family, if something were to happen to you. Deployments, an unpredictable work schedule, and the high risk job of a spouse makes the job at home worth that much more when purchasing life insurance, says Darras.

As a military spouse, its expected that your other half can get called away at a moments notice. What if, as the the sole adult in the household, you were no longer there to stay at home with your 1-year-old during a deployment? Who would pay the bills and care for the child, asks Frank Darras, http://www.darrasnews.com/?p=2557 these are the costs that should be considered when shopping for a life insurance policy.

When choosing a policy, take time to think through all of the responsibilities and how those responsibilities would be distributed if the stay at home parent were no longer there . Dont only think of your responsibilities when your spouse is home, but treat it as if your spouse is on deployment. Price out any services needed to cover those duties, from child care to house cleaning or even taxes. From there, use this pricing to figure out an average salary and this will help determine how much life insurance coverage to buy, says Darras.

Deployment is a fact of life and military families always have to be prepared, especially if the unthinkable were to happen. Sometimes families have months to prepare for deployment and other times families have just hours, says Darras.

While the military is great about working with families in times such as these, consider months or years down the road. Make sure you take out a policy that would protect your family for any situation the military life sends your way for years to come, says Darras.

Always speak to a trusted advisor and make sure when purchasing life insurance, the fine print is explained in detail, says Darras.

Surging Demand For High Accuracy Mobile Location Integration Drives Expansion At CPS Facility

(PRWEB) May 24, 2002

(Cambridge, UK) The world’s first facility for integrating high accuracy location software into mobile phones is expanding to meet surging demand from global handset manufacturers planning to launch product into the US market, it was announced today.

CPS opened the facility just six months ago offering testing and integration services for its pioneering E-OTD technology – accepted by US GSM operators as the standard location solution. E-OTD offers a key benefit to handset developers in so far as it requires only a small software change. Other location solutions, by contrast, require costly hardware changes as well.

Today, upwards of 20 leading handset and chipset vendors are moving through the integration process as they target Fall 2002 for the rollout of E-OTD enabled devices. It is understood that these will include a range of both handsets and PDAs from established brand leaders.

CPS is expecting a number of significant announcements to be made by manufacturers during the next quarter as market launch nears. Recent FCC filings by operators identified a number of vendors working towards E-OTD integration. The FCC also predicted recently that by 2005 up to 150 million handsets will be location enabled – around 95 per cent of all handsets in use – indicating the size of the available market.

CPS Chief Executive Officer Chris Wade said: “There is significant momentum building. We are seeing consistent, long term demand developing for our integration services from manufacturers. The throughput we are experiencing in our facility underlines the fact that major global players see E-OTD as the low cost high accuracy technology.”

The company is now recruiting additional engineers to meet the growth in demand. The integration facility provides a standard laboratory integration and test environment for mobile terminals incorporating E-OTD technology. It enables all GSM terminal manufacturers to test the performance of CPS’ positioning software within their products before being released to manufacturing for commercial rollout. Until the opening of the facility, it was impossible for terminal manufacturers to provide laboratory test results to the mobile network operators that are launching location-based services utilizing E-OTD.

This latest news follows a series of important contract wins for CPS from network equipment vendors for its’ network/handset based E-OTD solution. Earlier this year, CPS announced that Nortel Networks and Siemens were to adopt their solution, following similar success with Ericsson late the previous year.

Cambridge Positioning Systems

Cambridge Positioning Systems (CPS) licences Cursorä E-OTD technology to handset manufacturers and network equipment vendors and promotes and demonstrates the business case for high accuracy services to global mobile network operators. Cursorä, based on the Enhanced Observed Time Difference (E-OTD) system, delivers high accuracy mobile location technology – up to 100 metres on GSM networks. CPS has conducted successful trials of the Cursorä system in the UK, North America, Asia Pacific and Europe.
