Orange County, Calif. (PRWEB) January 4, 2008
eGuardian, designers of the child-safe Internet, today announced a partnership with FoundationCare, a non-profit organization dedicated to helping schools fund new technology, that will expand the reach of eGuardian and provide schools with a new income source.
Under this arrangement, eGuardian will donate $ 10 from each $ 20 enrollment fee for its innovative, patent-pending child protection service to local schools, and donate $ 2 to FoundationCare.
“This is a great opportunity for Orange County schools. Every time a parent signs up to protect his or her child online, the child’s local school will earn valuable funds,” said Elizabeth Zayas, executive director of FoundationCare.
Parents enroll in the eGuardian service to make social networking web sites and Internet search engines safe for their children. “We are in the business of protecting children and this relationship allows us to expand our reach while also benefiting children through schools and FoundationCare,” said Robert Patrick, eGuardian’s chief operations officer.
The partnership between eGuardian and FoundationCare will be heralded in a promotional campaign on the family-friendly cable networks Oxygen, Nickelodeon, the Food Network and ABC Family. “We look forward to increasing awareness of this exciting new partnership among California’s parents, teachers and school administrators. With help from eGuardian and FoundationCare, Orange County schools can lead the way in Internet protection, and benefit financially as well,” Zayas said.
The eGuardian application, which runs on any Windows- or Mac-based computer, verifies the age of a child and blocks contact with predators by allowing children to interact online only with other eGuardian-verified children. The service also blocks pornography sites, and allows popular search engines to automatically filter search results for the age of the child visitor.
eGuardian is available for a one-time fee of $ 20. Special programs are available to waive the fee for low-income households. Schools that choose to participate directly in eGuardian registration can earn more money per enrollment, and receive free unlimited use of the service for protecting children on school computers.
Parents or organizations interested in learning more about the new program can call 877-EGUARD-1, or visit eGuardian at http://www.eguardian.com or FoundationCare at http://www.foundationcare.org.
The eGuardian mission is to protect children online from inappropriate content and solicitation, resulting in safe learning and exploring on the Internet. Through partnerships with prominent web sites eGuardian creates an environment that allows children to learn and communicate without the fear of being solicited by predatory adults or being exposed to adult content. Following the allegations of child sexual abuse by Mr. Sandusky, Mr. Fritz offered his support to the alleged victims at Penn State earlier this week. Jeffrey Fritz, who is also president of the National Crime Victim Bar Association and who represents victims of child sexual abuse, joined with Tammy Lerner of the Foundation to Abolish Child Sexual Abuse, other victims’ organizations, and community members in holding a candlelight vigil in support of the alleged victims.
Mr. Fritz addressed the community and the media as a representative of the National Center for Victims of Crime, which partners with more than 15,000 organizations and for more than 25 years has worked to provide crime victims with the rights, protections, and services they need to rebuild their lives. Mr. Fritz called upon lawmakers and institutions to “take further steps to prevent sexual abuse and hold accountable perpetrators and the institutions that harbor them. One such step is the passage of stalled legislation pending in Pennsylvania to eliminate statutes of limitation for victims of child sexual abuse, which create a two-year window to permit survivors of sexual abuse to file civil law suits, regardless of when their abuse occurred.

Five children die each day from abuse in our country. As America prepares to send its children back to school, two dedicated organizations want communities to know there are ways to protect kids from predators, harassment and bullying.
In a partnership arrangement unique in the world of nonprofits, Beulahs Place and Childhelp are joining forces to raise funds to fight child abuse and trafficking.
Beulahs Place, founded by Ed and Andi Buerger in Redmond, Oregon, is a place of refuge for teens victimized by sexual predators and other abusers.
The Childhelp Speak Up Be Safe curriculum for grades 1st – 6th equips kids with skills to arm themselves from abuse in its various forms as well as via technology like sexting, internet predators and cyber bullying.
Both organizations stress that, today, sex trafficking is the second largest criminal endeavor next to illegal drugs in America. In the U.S. alone, this industry earns upwards of $ 13 billion a year for traffickers.
Beulahs Place is designed to be the prototype of a nationwide safety net for children who are easy prey for traffickers, sexual predators and pedophiles. Here, these at-risk youth will find food, shelter, unconditional love and hope. Beulahs Place gives kids options that will help them live normal lives, spared from violence, disease and even death at the hands of dispassionate criminals. Visit http://www.beulahsplace.org.
Since 1959, Childhelp has brought the light of hope and healing into the lives of countless children. CEO and Co-Founder Sara O’Meara and President and Co-Founder Yvonne Fedderson established Childhelp as a leading national non-profit organization dedicated to helping at-risk children. Sweden and UK–Mobilaris, the Swedish developers of information service middleware and location-based services for 2, 2.5 and 3G networks, have entered into a co-operative marketing agreement with Cambridge Positioning Systems Limited (CPS) to accelerate the rollout of high-accuracy location-based services throughout Europe.
With both fixed and mobile network operators in Europe mandated to make caller location information available to emergency authorities from next year, demand for high performance emergency applications and positioning technology is expected to surge, says Mobilaris CEO Björn Westerholm.
By combining our middleware expertise with CPS competence in positioning, we will be able to market the benefits of high precision positioning to network operators. Together, we can show them a different breadth of mass market, feature rich location applications that can be achieved by E-OTD positioning technology.
E-OTD technology has already been accepted as the standard location solution by GSM operators in the US, where it is pivotal in the rollout of location-enabled cellular phones to meet the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) E-911 mandate.
In Europe, operators will be legally required to make caller information available to authorities handling emergencies for all calls to the single European emergency call number 112, or E-112, with effect from mid-2003.
As well as raising the publics awareness of the benefits of location, the new European E-112 legislation will ensure that operators have the necessary building blocks in place to deliver location enhanced services, said CPS CEO Chris Wade.
It will also focus attention on ways in which operators can commercialise the equipment they need to install to meet the EU directive.
As part of the co-operative marketing agreement – believed to be the first of its type in Europe – Mobilaris Pacific Ocean* middleware platform will be integrated with CPS reference network.
This will allow us to demonstrate physically how the business case of location-based services can be improved with underlying enhancements to the positioning technology, added Chris Wade.
Together we can make high quality location based services a reality in Europe.
CPS is a world leading supplier of E-OTD technology through its customers – global network equipment vendors including Ericsson, Nortel Networks and Siemens and handset vendors including Samsung and Quanta.
Based in Stockholm and Luleå, Sweden, Mobilaris’ mission is to focus on fast time-to-market and return-on-investment for operators. Mobilaris combines the expertise of the very real mobile operator business environment with world-class mobile Internet technology and R&D. The founders of Mobilaris include proven business developers for location-based services, mobile software developers and strategic management expertise from the mobile communication industry. Mobilaris have together with Ericsson deployed commercially running installations across Europe.
Pacific Ocean is a service-enabling mediation middleware functioning as a layer between end-user services and subservient operator systems. The solution enables fast development of mobile services due to open interfaces allowing application providers to access functionality such as positioning, billing, statistics and similar systems. The design of the instrumentation enables the operator to scale and change legacy systems
About Cambridge Positioning Systems
Cambridge Positioning Systems Limited (CPS) develops and licenses its Cursorä E-OTD (Enhanced Observed Time Difference) system to handset manufacturers and network equipment vendors. The company is working with, or has licensed its technology to Ericsson, Nortel Networks, Siemens and Lucent Technologies.
Cursorä delivers high accuracy mobile location technology for GSM networks, with even greater accuracy predicted on 3G networks. CPS has conducted successful trials of the Cursorä system in the UK, North America, Asia Pacific and Europe.
From October 2001 in the US, the Federal Communications Commission has mandated that all calls from mobile phones to emergency services be accompanied by highly accurate information about the location of a caller. This ruling known as E-911 will provide significant opportunities for CPS highly accurate location technology as E-OTD emerges as the preferred choice to fulfil the FCCs regulation.
