Author of New Wall Street Journal Bestseller, “The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide,” Donates All Royalties to Campaign to End Child Homelessness

Jupiter, Fla. (PRWEB) April 22, 2009

Martin D. Weiss, Ph.D, president of Weiss Research, Inc. and author of the new Wall Street Journal bestseller, “The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide,” is donating all of his book royalties to the Campaign to End Child Homelessness, sponsored by the National Center on Family Homelessness. Dr. Weiss presented the first donation ($ 100,000) to Dr. Ellen Bassuk, MD, president of the Center and author of America’s Youngest Outcasts, in a ceremony held at Weiss Research’s Florida headquarters on Friday.

“This donation is an integral aspect of our national grassroots campaign to Protect the People — Not the Banks!” commented Dr. Weiss. “We feel the government’s ongoing attempts to bail out failed financial institutions, such as AIG and Citigroup, are counterproductive in more ways than one. The bailouts not only reward high-risk speculation while punishing prudent investing, but they also divert precious resources desperately needed by the most innocent victims of the housing crisis.”

Dr. Bassuk added: “Even before the housing market collapse, one in 50 American children were homeless each year. Today, with millions of Americans losing their homes in foreclosures, there are certainly many more children on the edge of economic survival. We deeply appreciate Dr. Weiss’ generous contribution to our Campaign to End Child Homelessness.”

Dr. Weiss’ book, The Ultimate Depression Survival Guide: Protect Your Savings, Boost Your Income and Grow Wealthy Even in the Worst of Times (Wiley, April 2009, 978-0-470-39377-2, $ 27.95),provides clear, step-by-step instructions to all Americans on:

How to sell your home if you want to, or keep it if you don’t
How to protect your home from further losses
How to find a truly safe bank or insurer
How to build a substantial cash nest egg and keep it absolutely safe
What to do with your 401k, IRA or savings for your child’s education
The telltale signs will tip you off to a bottom in home prices, stocks and bonds
When to lock in safe, high yields on your money for years to come
Where to find the most promising profit opportunities in a recovery

Meanwhile, the Campaign to End Child Homelessness seeks to:

Strengthen local efforts to end child homelessness with direct assistance to states and communities;
Improve program design and service delivery to meet the unique needs of homeless children and their families; and
Increase public awareness of the scope and impact of homelessness on children.

Dr. Bassuk concludes: “Our Campaign to End Child Homelessness and Martin Weiss’ new book share a common theme–by taking action now, we can come through to see a brighter day.”

To purchase the book, consumers can visit http://www.UltimateDepressionSurvivalGuide.com or any national bookseller. Plus, readers and non-readers alike are invited to make charitable donations to the Campaign to End Child Homelessness at http://familyhomelessness.org/?q=node/14 or by calling 617-964-3834.

United Law Group Donates $15,000 to Organization Rebuilding Bomb Shelters in Israel

Irvine, CA (Vocus) June 5, 2009

United Law Group, the leading provider of legal foreclosure prevention and foreclosure litigation services donated $ 15,000 to renovate a bomb shelter in the town of Nahariya, which is located in the northern region of Israel. The people in this town face imminent danger as attacks from the north leave them little to no time to enter shelters. The firm plans to sponsor additional shelters and is encouraging other organizations to do the same.

According to IsraelNN.com, the Israeli Defense Ministry and the Home Front Command put together the largest war simulation in the history of the State of Israel from May 31 – June 4, 2009. Beginning with a “battle in Gaza” on Sunday, this five-day drill was designed to test Israel’s preparedness in the event of a war.

The map of the region shows that people living in the red zone have no warning of an attack from the north. They must enter a bomb shelter immediately. Others have anywhere from 30 seconds to 3 minutes to take shelter.

“This is a very real threat for these people,” said Sean Rutledge, Managing Director for United Law Group. “Unfortunately, the private communal bomb shelters were not designed for people to remain for extended periods. They don’t have bathrooms, electricity, mattresses or cooking areas.”

During the Second War with Lebanon, families were forced to stay in the shelters for 34 days.

“United Law Group is happy to be part of the effort to make these shelters livable for the people that need them,” continued Rutledge.

Where previous conflicts were fought on battlefields away from the cities, the war with Lebanon taught the Israeli people that civilians could be targets. At the time there weren’t enough bomb shelters available so people were forced to flee from the north to the southern region of the country.

“My 85-year-old mother and my sister who, at the time was battling cancer, were forced to flee to Tel Aviv,” said Rony Jordan, founder and director of Tikvat Am Yisrael. “Their experience was not unique. It made me realize that there is a need for clean, safe shelters to protect the weakest members of the towns. That’s when I decided to focus the efforts TAY Ministries in this area.”

A child of Holocaust survivors, Rony was raised in Nahariya, Israel and served in the Israeli Defense Force. He later traveled to the United States, where he married his wife Cynthia and worked as a general contractor for 20 years.

“The translation of our name is Hope for the People of Israel,” says Rony. “People living in Israel today don’t have much hope. But with the help and support of companies like United Law Group, we will bring hope back to the people.”

ChooseDirect Donates a Portion of Sales from ChooseHotTubsDirect.com to Help Runaway Teens through Project Christmas CAROL at the Covenant House California in Oakland

San Francisco, CA (Vocus) December 25, 2009

ChooseDirect loves giving, especially around the holidays. So when CEO Steve Barbarich heard about the Covenant House California’s Project Christmas CAROL (Care About Remembering Overlooked Lives), he decided to donate a portion of sales from his company’s e-commerce site, ChooseHotTubsDirect.com, to bring aid to runaway teens and young adults who would otherwise obtain nothing this Christmas.

“I see homeless people on the streets of San Francisco every day, but it’s impossible to help them all” says Barbarich. “Giving to the Covenant House in Oakland is one way to get teens and young adults out of cardboard shelters, into warm beds and perhaps even receive a little joy this Christmas.”

One of Barbarich’s e-commerce sites, Choose Hot Tubs Direct.com, is no stranger to donating to worthy causes. For example, ChooseHotTubsDirect.com raised money for Hurricane Ike victims last October. In October of this year, he chose breast cancer as his charity, realizing California has some of the highest breast cancer rates in the nation. For the holiday season, he wanted to make life a little happier for homeless teens.

For the month of December, until today, Barbarich has allocated funds from Island Escape Spas sales to donate to the Covenant House California. In partnering with the center, Barbarich hopes to raise awareness about homelessness and the rise in runaway rates in the San Francisco metropolitan area, where his company, ChooseDirect, is based.

Though the Covenant House’s services are mostly for people 18-24, its policy is to accept every child who shows up at its doors. Since 1988, it has helped more than 145,000 homeless youth get off the streets and escape the physical and psychological abuse that either brought them there or plagues them as homeless people. The society’s mission is to “protect and safeguard all children of the street” with “absolute respect and unconditional love.” It offers street outreach and residential and supportive services. In addition, the organization has a hot line for teens in trouble, 1-800-999-9999 and a website, Nineline.org. The Covenant House California helps runaways and homeless young adults deal with suicidal ideations, drug and alcohol abuse, basic needs and anything else imaginable that these people face and from which they escape.

Giving to the Covenant House California is simple. Not only does it love in kind gifts such as food, personal hygiene products, business attire for job interviews and employment and footwear, among other items, but it also tremendously appreciates monetary donations. You can contribute securely on the Web, by phone at 1-866-268-3686 (1-866-COV-DOVE), or by mail by downloading a donation form and sending it to Covenant House California, Attn.: Development Department, 1325 N. Western Avenue, Hollywood, CA 90027.

San Francisco is often considered the homelessness capital of the world because of its mild climate and social programs providing cash benefits to the homeless. An estimated 7,000-10,000 people remain homeless in San Francisco, and the city spends approximately $ 200 million a year on programs aimed at helping the situation(1). According to the National Runaway Switchboard, California alone has 16,909 runaway children, teens and young adults. Truly a problem plaguing the Bay area, ChooseDirect has decided to take steps this year to combat the crisis by donating to the Covenant House California’s Project Christmas CAROL.

Delta Dental Donates $250 Million Over Five Years

Oak Brook, IL (Vocus/PRWEB) February 07, 2011

Over the past five years, uninsured children and adults seeking dental care through charity dental clinics, children participating in Head Start programs, students pursing degrees in dentistry and dental hygiene, and dentists trying to retire massive debts have benefited from $ 250 million in grants and donations from Delta Dental member companies throughout the country.

People in every state have benefited from Delta Dental grants and donations, said Chris Pyle, director of public relations for the Delta Dental Plans Association. Whether it is mobile dental units in Washington, South Dakota or Arkansas; entertaining education programs in New Jersey, Connecticut, Missouri, Michigan or Oklahoma; school-based sealant programs in Wisconsin or Colorado; safety net dental clinics in California, New Mexico or Pennsylvania; or Head Start kids in Minnesota or Kansas, Delta Dental is having a huge impact on the lives of underserved adults and kids.

Delta Dental plans to continue investing in oral health, and thats good news for the millions of adults who will remain without dental coverage even after health care reform mandates are fully implemented. Under health care reform, beginning in 2014, adults will be required to purchase health insurance or else pay a fine. Part of the coverage they will be required to purchase is a yet-to-be-defined package of dental benefits for their children. For the first time, parents shopping for medical and dental benefits will be able to do so via state insurance exchanges, where theyll also have access to varying levels of subsidies.

When crafting the language for the health insurance mandate, Congress was careful to protect a parents right to purchase a childs dental coverage from a dental benefits expert, such as Delta Dental. Whether parents acquire this pediatric dental coverage from Delta Dental or some other carrier, millions of currently uninsured children will soon have access to coverage for the first time. Still, the legislation did nothing to ensure dental coverage for adults and, unfortunately, even for the children, access to coverage does not always translate into access to care.

Access may always be an issue, said Pyle. While health care reform will mean new coverage options for children, if historical trends continue, we know that access to care for low-income Americans and their children will remain a challenge. Thats why Delta Dental remains committed to supporting programs that link children and adults to the care they need.

Each year, Delta Dental member companies donate millions of dollars to support programs such as mobile dental units that visit schools in underserved areas, school-based dental clinics and sealant programs, charity dental clinics, Give Kids a Smile programs, fun interactive oral health education programs for children and their teachers, and programs aimed at increasing the supply of dentists through school loan repayment programs and dental school scholarships.

For more information on Delta Dentals charitable activities in your state, visit deltadental.com.

The not-for-profit Delta Dental Plans Association, based in Oak Brook, Ill., is the leading national network of independent dental service corporations specializing in providing dental benefits programs to more than 54 million Americans in more than 93,000 employee groups throughout the country.

Simply Audiobooks Donates Funds to Restock Library Books with the Books for Kids Charity

(Vocus/PRWEB) February 08, 2011

During the past holiday season, Simply Audiobooks raised enough money for the Books for Kids charity that allowed an entire Books for Kids library to be restocked with new books. The campaign enabled customers to choose the option of donating to charity at checkout with the purchase of a gift certificate. Simply Audiobooks donated 10% of the gift value, on the customers behalf, to the Books for Kids charity.

The funds raised will not only restock an entire library, but will also allow Books for Kids to give away a collection of take home books for low-income and at-risk preschool-aged children served by that library. Simply Audiobooks is thrilled to give back to a charity that strives to promote literacy and help children who do not have adequate access to books.

As literacy remains a prominent issue, its vital that we address the fundamental value of literacy at a young age in order to protect the academic future of a child. With 85% of our core personality traits, our intellect, social skills, developed at the age of 5, it is crucial to support a childs growth. Ian Small, Brand Manager of Simply Audiobooks, believes the power of storytelling goes beyond solely being entertained by a good story. Ristech Donates High-Tech Digital Book Scanner to Hospital for Sick Children

Toronto, ON (PRWEB) September 27, 2011

With items as old as 1875, the archives at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) handles a lot of delicate documents, which can be easily damaged during use or scanning. To make the art of preserving history a little easier for the hospital, Ristech recently donated a Book2net Spirit digital book scanner to the Hospital Library and Archives.

We are incredibly grateful for and thrilled to receive this wonderful book scanner, said Janet Wencer, archivist and library technician SickKids Library and Archives. It copies with ease and without damaging anything, its absolutely quiet, doesnt give off any heat and its very fast. It makes our job so much easier.

The Book2net Spirit is the first entry-level high-resolution scanner designed for fast and simple public use, and it is very gentle on books and documents, making it the ideal option for delicate and older books and documents that need to be reproduced or archived.

As one of the worlds foremost childrens hospitals, SickKids contributes to families across Canada every day, so we were honored to make this donation, said Robb Richardson, President, Ristech Company Inc.

In particular, the archives team is focusing on scanning annual reports, board minutes and other archived documents. The Book2net Spirit doesnt require that materials lay completely flat, making it easier to scan items without damaging them, and provides clear, high-quality scans of materials even when the books are slightly open. The Archives also requires a strictly temperature-controlled environment, so having a scanner that doesnt give off heat is critical.

Nineteenth century paper is pretty brittle and acidic, which makes it really hard to handle. We want to protect and preserve our history and all of these unique documents, and this scanner has been excellent in that regard, Wencer added.

McGruff Take a Bite Out of Crime SafeGuard Donates Child Safe Browser to K-12 Schools Nationwide

Ft. Lauderdale, FL (PRWEB) October 16, 2012

As more and more primary and secondary schools deploy iPads to their students, administrators are faced with a new problem how to prevent children from viewing inappropriate websites.

Most schools protect children at school with campus-wide network filtering tools for PCs and mobile devices. But when a student takes the iPad home the device, and the child, are vulnerable. Apples Safari browser on the iPad doesnt provide parental controls, so theres no filter for inappropriate porn, gambling or violent websites.

To help schools, McGruff SafeGuard announced today that it is donating the fully upgraded McGruff SafeGuard Browser for iPads to public school districts nationwide. The upgraded version provides extensive parental control features, such as letting parents see which websites their child visits, and what their child was searching for.

Parents are justifiably concerned that the iPads their children bring home from school are completely unprotected, said Marty Schultz, director of McGruff SafeGuard. Its our mission to keep children safe online. Our donation to public schools enables schools and parents work together to keep their children safe.

The McGruff SafeGuard Browser is a fully-featured, Safari-like browser app for the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch that blocks inappropriate websites and content. Over 100 topics can be blocked including pornography, dating, violence, sex education, alcohol, drugs, gambling and many others. Parents receive a report summarizing their child or teens online browsing activity, and which device was used for access.

To participate in this program, all school administrators have to do is contact McGruff SafeGuard at k12 (at) gomcgruff (dot) com.

Vigilant Solutions Donates its Services to National Center for Missing & Exploited Children

Livermore, CA (PRWEB) December 19, 2012

Vigilant Solutions announces today it will donate its services to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) to locate vehicles of interest in missing child and non-compliant sex offender cases in order to provide that information to investigating law enforcement agencies.

Vigilant Solutions owns and operates the National Vehicle Location Service (NVLS), the largest license plate recognition (LPR) data sharing initiative in North America. Housing over 1 billion LPR records, and growing at roughly 40 million new records each month, NVLS is hosted in a secure data center and made available exclusively to law enforcement agencies as an investigative tool. Vigilants LPR products have aided in the successful resolution of many active cases including homicides, terrorist plots, rapes, identity theft, child abductions, and much more.

NCMEC has queried Vigilants database over 15,000 times in the past year to assist law enforcement as they search for vehicles involved in missing child cases or noncompliant sex offender investigations.

The donation from Vigilant Solutions is greatly appreciated, said Bud Gaylord, executive director of the Case Analysis Division at NCMEC. Their service is a very useful tool in our efforts to respond to law enforcement requests for assistance.
